Arabelle Bernecker-Thiel, former Programme Manager of ICMPD’s Border Management and Visa Programme, works as a consultant for border management, visa and migration. In the past 12 years she has successfully developed and implemented numerous border management projects in the EU, Eastern Europe, North Africa and South East Asia covering all aspects of border management. Before that she worked for the OSCE, UNHCR and the Council of Europe in various positions in France, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo.
For the past four years she was involved in the FastPass Project, responsible for the development of Standard Operating Procedures for a new generation of eGates for air, sea and land borders, as well as the training of border guards. She also works as an expert for the development of national Integrated Border Management Strategies and Action Plans and co-authored the 2010 Guidelines for Integrated Border Management in EC External Cooperation.
